Since temperature levels keep changing all through the day, your greenhouse may not be able to provide consistent and ideal temperature for your crops. Due to this problem of inconsistent temperature levels, it becomes necessary to have greenhouse heaters that will help to maintain the required temperatures. Without greenhouse heaters, you would have to depend on your area’s prevailing weather conditions when planting. Since some crops require specific temperature levels, it is important to invest in greenhouse heaters.
Greenhouse heaters are devices installed in a greenhouse and they help one to regulate the temperature in one’s greenhouse easily, no matter the weather conditions outside. In this article, we will look into the various kinds of greenhouse heaters that are available and how they work.
There are basically 3 types of greenhouse heaters, based on their source of generating heat;
1. Paraffin Greenhouse heaters.
This type of heater uses paraffin to fuel the heater and hence generate heat. They can act as temporary solutions to heating your greenhouse, but for long term purposes I would not recommend it. This is because they produce smoke fumes which means you will need a good ventilation system. In addition, they use wicks and hence you will need to constantly trim and replace the wicks. Finally, you will need to refill the heaters with paraffin for continuous use
2. Gas Greenhouse heaters.
These heaters use natural gas in order to generate heat to be used to regulate the temperature in the greenhouse. A disadvantage of this type of heater is that they produce smoke fumes which means that you will need to invest in ventilation so as to allow the smoke fumes to be filtered out. In addition, they need to be closely monitored and kept in a safe place in your greenhouse to prevent any accidents.
3. Electric Greenhouse heaters.
These particular heaters are among the most efficient in the regulation of temperatures in greenhouses. Another advantage with these heaters, is that they do not produce smoke. This means their would be no need to invest in ventilation particularly to deal with any smoke pollution.
There are several kinds of greenhouse heaters that you can choose from. Before you decide which one to purchase, you should assess your greenhouse structure and its needs(crops needs). When you decide that you need to buy a greenhouse heater, you should consider the greenhouse heater’s output range, installation and running costs. The needed heat output range depends on the area of your greenhouse and other factors. So do consult with your nearby greenhouse store about your required heat output range and choose the appropriate greenhouse heater.
